21st Century Living

A wide, wooden table is burgeoning with treats,
Stood looking through the window is a girl that never eats

Not through a disorder, or mysterious disease,
But pure and simple poverty, over sick and evil greed

With distended gut that's plain to see, all look; but walk on by,
As their stares become aversion, she begins to cry

Face resting on the window, bare-feet turning in to ice,
A sister stands forgotten, in the cruel class divide

She didn't ask, but doesn't moan - for this simply is her life,
But wish-oh-wish upon a star, she does night after night

Oily rags which drape her bones, are threadbare; non-distinct,
When one fine and kindred gentleman - in pity - takes her in

She feasts upon the delights; as munificent his hand,
Now saved from ethereal, she's a daughter of the land

But what of the forgotten; those suffering this plight?
Well, they too stare through those windows. And barely just survive.

Thank you :)

I studied A Level Psychology and Sociology for a time, but never completed the course due to work commitments. Perhaps it's firmly implanted in my grey matter somewhere without me realising!

lmao, sociology aaaaagh I couldnt stand that lol toooooo wishy washy for me,I did psych and counselling dip, mind you I guess counselling is a bit wishy washy as well.

The poem initially reminded me of the bbc play threads-post nuclear war effort.

I am now blaming you for my involvement in blogging lol,Ive started my own up to help get all the nonsense in my head out and get rid of some psych drafts Ive had for ages sat doing nothing lol

I've just read your posts... Very interesting.

If I were to take up anything in addition to my writing course (completely separate to my blog), it would be psychology and counselling!

Im sure you would do well!the only trouble is choosing a specialist field, mine is personality disorders, which one would you choose and why?

Ink Champagne said...

I ain't thought about which field, or know enough about them to make the choice without knowing what the options are.

Perhaps bereavement, perhaps one to help kids. Hmmm. Thought for the day.

Bereavement counselling is very admirable,I did a bit as part of my training very emotionally demanding, did loads of work on the psychological effects of dying,Ill have to dig out my paper on it.

Keep looking I might find it
